Prof. Ir. Dr. Suzana Yusup

Professor Ir Dr Suzana Yusup, is the Head of the Center for Biofuel and Biochemical Research and is a Professor at Chemical Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. She received her B.Eng (Hons) from University of Leeds, United Kingdom in Chemical Engineering in 1992, MSc from University of Wales, United Kingdom in Chemical Engineering in 1995 and PhD from University of Bradford in Chemical Engineering United Kingdom. Her research interest is in the area of biomass conversion to fuel and biochemicals, material development and green processes. Professor Dr Suzana Yusup has authored one book, 16 book chapters, more than 200 articles in high impact factor journals and conference papers, 16 patents and 3 granted patents with cumulative citation number of 2210 and h-index of 32 (Sources: Scopus). Among her important awards won are Malaysia’s Research Star Award (2017), Malaysia’s Rising Star Award (2016). 2nd prize in the Elsevier Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge (2016), Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) (2016), Asia Research Award (2012) from The Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan (SCEJ), and Creativity Award, Geneva (2011).

Workshop Title: Biomass Conversion to Fuel

Biomass to Fuels workshop provides insights to researchers, academicians, professionals and others with the information on the current status and future trends in biomass utilization and characterization, biofuel (gas, liquid and solid) conversion technologies, characteristics of the products, bioremediation technology, biomass fuel in engine performance and third generation of biofuel from microalgae. It is envisaged that participants are able to understand the main characteristics of biomass and biofuel, have in depth knowledge on biofuel conversion technology, understand the environment sustainability of biomass, biofuel and biochemical production. Specific proposed topics to be delivered not limited to the following items;
1. Biomass in Malaysia: Type, potential and available conversion technologies
2. Pretreatment of biomass prior to different processes: Fiber material
3. Sonochemistry for Green Technology
4. Microbial fuel cell for electricity generation
5. Geopolymer as an emerging Green Material for future
6. Biogas production from organic waste (animal manure, food and agricultural waste) and it's scale up
7. Biomass conversion to fuel through hydrodynamic cavitation and catalytic conversion technologies
8. Heterogeneous catalysts for production of biodiesel
9. Optimization of biodiesel production from waste feedstock
10. Microalgae cultivation for biomass and biofuel production
11. One-pot fuel production process from microalgae: Hydrothermal method
12. Protein source from insects
